SIZOPHILA WELLNESS CENTRE

Sizophila Wellness Centre destroyed in fire in Nomzamo Sizophila, meaning wellness or wellbeing, was the Wellness Centre of Masincedane, situated in the Shoprite U-Save Centre in the business hub of Nomzamo. Since 2014 the Centre has been operating a program for the Department of Health in delivering a service to the residents of the area as well as the people visiting the U-Save Shopping Centre. The Centre has served as a walk in facility for HIV testing, Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar Monitoring, Height and Weight as well as Body Mass Index measuring. These services were done by trained Counsellors and Community Health Workers. Added to this, the Sizophila team regularly went out to do outreaches at specific venues in the Helderberg Area, also on awareness days at schools or churches, and also to corporate businesses that needed this free service for their employees. Then sadly, very recently, on 10 April, 2019, Sizophila was burnt down when the U-Save Shopping Centre was targeted by vandals. Everything was lost. The equipment as well as all the records were lost in the fire. The Gazebos, tables, chairs, scales, LED lights, Stadiometers, ETC were all burnt out. We have to start from scratch again. Despite the challenges the team experiences due to lack of equipment we are trying our best to continue to deliver our services at no cost to the people of the Helderberg Area.
